Joint Manipulation
If you have been to a chiropractor before you have probably had your joints manipulated. Here at DCFM there are a variety of techniques that can be utilized to manipulate joints. The ultimate goals of joint manipulation are to decrease pain, increase range of motion, provide a stimulus to the central nervous system for better neuromuscular control.
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation
Dr. Katelyn uses a stainless steel instrument to strum across the more superficial (surface) layers of the skin. The goal of this is to help muscles be able to glide better with their connected network of tissue called fascia, which basically holds all your muscles together from your head down to your toes.
Cupping (Decompression Therapy)
You can think of cupping kind of like a reverse deep tissue massage. At DCFM we use acrylic based cups that sucks air out and pulls the tissue up with it. This allows for modulation of pain perception to that area. This also helps to create constant stimulus to a muscle to tell it to "shut off" to relieve overall tightness of said muscle.
Dry Needling
Dry needling is able to target trigger points in the muscle belly, myotendinous junction (muscle as it turns into tendinous tissue), tendoperiosteal (tendon connecting to the bone) junction as well as ligamentous tissue. Needles will be inserted into these areas allowing for reduction of pain and muscle tightness. It can also help increase range of motion due to these muscle tightness issues. Dry needling is also great for speeding up recovery, for example, if you have a sprained ankle and its crazy swollen and bruised, inserting needles into the area can allow more blood flow to the area and reduce pain and swelling and increase range of motion, which sounds contradictory, but its true!
Corrective Exercise
At DCFM we want you feeling as optimal as possible, as fast as possible. Almost every single patient will receive some type of movement therapy to take home with them to help relieve their pain outside the office. Studies have shown that manual therapy with the inclusion of some type of exercise therapy, the results will not only come faster but last longer. This could include body weight, resistance band or some kind of weighted (loaded) exercise.
Kinesiotherapy - Taping
You have probably seen KT tape on high school, college or pro-athletes. This tape is used to allow better proprioception (which is a fancy way to say, where your body is in space.) When you have more awareness of where your body is in space, you have better neuromuscular control. In some studies, KT tape has also shown to help slightly lift skin to allow more blood flow to an area and slightly increase healing time and modulate pain perception.
Percussion Therapy (Massage Gun)
At DCFM we use a massage gun that "percusses" muscles. In tighter areas you may notice your body has an involuntary response which is completely normal. This constant percussion allows for modulation of pain perception and to over stimulate the muscle to tell it to turn off.

Patient-Centered Treatment
At DCFM we take the time to understand the root of your problem in order to provide the best and most effective treatment. The goal is to get you better as fast as possible. DCFM will also educate you so that you can understand your issue and help you manage your pain outside of the clinic. Each patient is unique and will be treated as such. Care plans are not universal so the Doctor will determine what type of plan would be best for you.
Treatment & Therapy
Technique Variety
Treatment & Therapy forms an integral part of our approach to treating the whole body, not just a complaint in isolation. Dr. Katelyn is well versed in Motion Palpation, Diversified, Gonstead, Thompson (drop table), End Range Loading (mechanical diagnosis), Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS), Kinesiology Taping, Cupping, and multiple Soft-tissue techniques.
Assessment & Diagnosis
Putting You First
At Dynamic Chiropractic and Functional Movement, we hear your story and take a detailed history. To that end, we create an individualized treatment plan including Assessment & Diagnosis aimed at achieving the functional goals we set together.
